About Me

Who is Penny Izlakar? I am incredibly passionate about people, their development, driving change and finding the perfect blend of role, culture and fit to help people be the best versions of themselves might be understatement. I love mentoring, growing, and finding hidden talent in unexpected areas. I thrive in environments where I can drive change, push continuous improvement, implement that 80% solution, then go for 20% operational improvement. I live my values. I follow the 80/20 process for myself, my work, and my organizations. I use that model to increase engagement, active learning, authenticity, inspiration, and purpose. I believe people want to work for a company that allows them to show up authentically and share their unique ideas, challenges, experiences, and diversity that makes us all unique.

I have an MBA specializing in International Business from Royal Roads University, a records, library and information background with 24 years experience focused on records management, IT governance and compliance, cybersecurity, audit, and risk across eight industries (nuclear, telecom software development, aviation, legal services, pharmaceutical, financial banking and oil and gas) but have always fallen back to the people and culture side in each of my roles. I have supported Mergers & Acquisitions, Divestitures, corporate reorgs, large-scale culture and change management initiatives and drove process optimization in nearly every role. I love the talent acquisition process and have successfully found the right fit for the roles I need to fill. Today I am leading a talent acquisition process that is progressive, scalable, and designed for finding the right person quickly. I thrive in finding unique and engaging talent management solutions such as gamification (learning and development, leadership engagement and increasing awareness and adoption).

I live my passion outside of the office:
I am Co-Chair for FEMINEN Calgary Employee Resource Group designed to build up and promote female engineers and technologists. I am on the Women in Leadership Alberta Chapter Board. I have built a 52 Week Career Challenge for my LinkedIn network designed to inspire and challenge growth in the participant – not a member yet, want to join, message me.

I’ve started a BLOG focused on Career Development, Diversity and Inclusion, Leadership and Mentoring. My goal is to write a book to share my experiences to inspire and challenge those who may need a pep squad to cheer them on.
